5 Tips to Keep Your Veneers Looking Great

Did you know that more than one-third of American adults are not happy with their smiles? This is why dental care is so important, especially if you are considering getting veneers. We have put together this guide to ensure that you are able to maintain a sparkling smile after your dentist puts in veneers.

Keep reading to learn our top tips to keep your veneers looking their best all year.

1. Brush and Floss

Although this might sound obvious you’d be surprised at how many people are not as diligent as they should be when it comes to brushing and flossing after every single meal. At a minimum, you should brush and floss twice per day.

The main reason is that you have to be proactive about preventing gum disease because this will cause your gums to recede which, in turn, will damage the veneers. It’s just like wanting to avoid getting cavities with braces, you want to prevent damage.

2. No Tobacco

After investing money on getting veneers it is best to say no to tobacco products. This will contribute to getting yellow stains on your teeth. Even though porcelain is stain-resistant, using too much tobacco will still take a toll on the veneers.

Keep in mind that the tobacco will also stain and deteriorate the bonding line.

3. Use a Straw

Unless you are drinking water, use a straw. Most drinks have strong colorings that will stick to the tooth enamel. If possible use a straw even when you are getting your caffeine fix.

4. Use the Right Brush

Along with brushing and flossing often you want to use the right tools. It is best to use toothbrushes that have ultra-soft bristles or use an electric toothbrush. If the toothbrush has bristles that are too hard it can scratch the surface of the veneers.

Also, you want to use toothpaste that does not contain things like hydrogen peroxide or baking soda. These ingredients can cause the veneers to lose their color or their shine.

5. Watch What You Eat

It is best to stay away from hard foods like apples, raw carrots, meats with bones, etc. Your teeth are going to be more susceptible to chipping or breaking so it is best to not bite into anything that is too hard.

You also want to stay away from starchy foods that have too much sugar or too much acid. Things like chocolates, pasta, candy, and bread will trigger the teeth to decay and will cost you a lot more to replace in the future.
